“Awaken. Revive. Return to life.”
Description:
Mufandichimuka, also known as the resurrection bush or Myrothamnus flabellifolius, is a rare woody shrub found on Zimbabwe’s rocky hillsides and dry crevices. Seemingly lifeless for most of the year, it bursts back to green life with the first rains — a symbol of restoration, survival, and hope.
Its name comes from the Shona phrase meaning “I have risen again.” A sacred plant in African traditional medicine, it is used in teas, smudging, steaming, lotions, and spiritual baths to restore the body and soul. It is also called Umafavuke in Ndebele.

Scientific & Cultural Notes:

Mufandichimuka is the only woody resurrection plant in Southern Africa. It folds its leaves and stems during drought to reduce light absorption and oxidative damage — then revives fully when water returns.

It contains powerful antioxidants and compounds that calm inflammation and boost cellular repair. Its ability to survive extreme dehydration is symbolic and medicinal, offering strength to the body, mind, and spirit.

The plant is rich in:

  • Flavonoids
  • Tannins
  • Minerals
  • Antioxidants

Caution:

  • Avoid during pregnancy unless under spiritual supervision
  • Do not use in high doses over long periods without guidance
  • Not suitable for people on blood pressure-lowering medication without supervision

Who It’s For:

  • People recovering from illness or emotional trauma
  • Women seeking womb healing, clarity, and energy restoration
  • Men and women with chest issues, asthma, or fatigue
  • Spiritual practitioners doing energy clearing, renewal, or ancestral rites

Cultural Context:

Mufandichimuka is more than a plant — it is a teacher. In Shona and other Southern African traditions, it is used by herbalists and elders to mark spiritual rebirth, strength, and resilience. Its tea is now increasingly used by modern wellness seekers as a daily tonic for energy, detox, and vitality.

The name “Resurrection Bush” speaks not only to its biology, but to the ancestral power it holds. It reminds us that even in dryness, healing is always possible — and rebirth is never out of reach.
